A short biography
Daw Su Su Hlaing was born in 1971 to U Naing Aye and Daw Mya Thaung, the third of five children.
She received a mathematics degree from the University of Yangon in 1994, a Diploma in Development Studies (Dip.DS) in November 2002 and, in March 2013, a Master of Development Studies (MDevS) from the Yangon University of Economics. Her thesis, “Development of Security Services in Myanmar”, links private security services with national development. In 2018 she earned a Diploma of Political Science (Dip P.S).

Community involvement
In 2013 she served for one year as chair of the Myanmar Women’s Affairs Federation (Pazundaung Township). She served for eight years in the Yangon Region anti-human-trafficking committee, from executive member up to secretary. She is the founding chair of the Winning Humanitarian Development Foundation (WHDF) and served two years as chair of the Private Security Services Association (PSSA). She has also worked as an adviser to local social organizations on economic and organizational development.
She has delivered motivation, business, social and leadership training and women-empowerment courses for local NGOs, and has worked as a consultant.
International
International experience and scholarships
2008: Fellowship for Women Development Program, China. 2011–2012: study visit to South Korea on security services and CCTV; she also visited Singapore and Japan to learn about and teach private security training. 2014: Economic Empowerment Program (EEP) Fellowship, USA, studying economic development together with security and fire safety.
November 2015: selected by Thailand’s Ministry of Commerce for the first cohort of 30 Myanmar young entrepreneurs in the Young Entrepreneur Network Development Program (YEN-D). November 2015: selected for the YSEALI summit in Malaysia on economic empowerment. 2018: first cohort of the CLMVT (Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam, Thailand) young entrepreneurs course in Thailand.
Literature & media
Literature, music and art
She has written articles for state newspapers and journals since 1992, as well as short stories and short essays for magazines. Her book “The Best Legacy in the World” was first published in 2005 and in a second edition in 2014. In 2014 she presented a 12-month radio program on Myanmar’s twelve monthly festivals, and she has spoken on women’s topics on MRTV.
